Simple Isn't Always Easy

CrossFit has a copious amount of movements. We squat, clean, press, handstand ... you name it, we do it. Some of the movements we do are simple in a biomechanical sense, but are still very challenging. Consider the basic air squat and deadlift. They are simple by design, but difficult to master. The beauty is that when we start to master the simple movements, they allow us to develop capacity in the more complex movements.

The Buddha said the ‘middle way,’ the path between deprivation and overindulgence, leads to liberation. This is the path we all must take in order to not only cease the destruction of our world, but also to bring an end to our own suffering.

I wrote these poems while traveling through eastern Australia between January and April of 2013 with the School For International Training (SIT) study abroad program Sustainability and Environmental Action. The book was submitted as part of an Independent Study Project on Buddhism and environmental sustainability.

The intention of “The Middle Way” is to create awareness of the heart, mind and connection to nature, as well as motivate action for environmental change.

Enjoy!

Karla killing it.

In the heat of competition, we often see an athlete's true character revealed. Some implode and show frustration, while others excude confidence and poise. This photo of our women show the latter. Cara is cheering in support of Karla, as she completes a muscle-up. This scenario played out all weekend. Our team stuck together and supported each other through ever event. Great job team! You are all true athletes, inside and out.
