Physique

IMG_5163

Most people who exercise want to have some physique change. Some want to be leaner, and some want bigger muscles and more chiseled abs. The CrossFitter understands performance is what to chase. Instead of worrying about which muscle group we are working or how many calories we burn, we think about loads and times and skills. The result of this kind of focus is a solid understanding of human movement and individual capacity, as well as some pretty hot bodies.

Becoming a weightlifting, sprinting gymnast is no easy task. It takes hours, days, weeks and years. It takes humility and mental fortitude. It takes grit and heart. To me, being a CrossFitter means a lifelong pursuit of excellence. I constantly want to learn to do things better, and I celebrate that quality even when it is hard.

The Final

IMG_5067Our Affiliate team in the final

The level of fitness CrossFit is able to create in people is incredible. It is unreal how much and how fast people are able to do the tasks the CrossFit program designers create. The people who are out there competing in the sport of CrossFit are, however, the outliers. Most people who do CrossFit are finding an unparallelled fitness program that has them doing things they never thought possible. A handstand, a pull-up, a mile run, a body weight deadlift. The general physical fitness the average client in our gym is working toward is the real story. The competitions are a side note to the big picture that is making people better at living, better at playing with their kids, and hopefully having fun along the way.

Done and Done

CFSC_BaileyRun Bailey anchoring the relay and finishing strong.

The Regional marked the end of the competition season for all of our competitive athletes for this year. This can be a great time for reflection and taking measure of how you prepared and performed. It is a time to consider what you might want to do with your training next time around, or it may be a time to just relax. Either way, it is an opportunity to learn, grow and move forward. I for one have a few great take aways from the weekend and am happy and excited to work on those things.

Having a generally positive outlook and attitude in life is one of the most admirable characteristics in a person. Having the ability to see the situation at hand clearly, make rational decisions and then be happy with whatever the outcome, can be difficult to learn to do. But being positive has a powerful effect on the everyone and will make you enjoy life more.

Kelvin

Kelvin was my first strength and conditioning coach almost 10 yeas ago. He is a talented and caring coach, and a tremendoulsy generous person. I learned a great deal from him and probably would not be doing what I do today if not for his influence over my life. I will be at CrossFit Santa Cruz Central this Sunday to support him on his journey and fight against lymphoma. I hope some of you come to workout and support him too.

Among the Fittest

JesseDL2012Jesse rocking "Diane" and finishing in 9th place on the first workout of the Regional event.

The degree of fitness and the level of athlete CrossFit is producing is something unparallelled. All of the hard work done by the people in and out of their gym is creating an unfathomable fitness. Jesse stands among the fittest men in the world and holds his head high. He was hard working, composed, technically sound and generally good at everything. Great work Jesse.
