Scared? Good.

Yesterday we announced our new food challenge. Many of you immediately thought you couldn't do it, and you may be right.  But just like the workouts that sometimes seem impossible, we can modify and scale. Need a little motivation? Read the following letter from Grandpa Tom. If he can do it, so can you.

To my friends at CrossFit Santa Cruz –

As many of you know, my goal is to be the best grandpa for Zella that I can be. This means being able to get down on the floor to play with her, to run in the park with her, to carry her for miles of hiking in the woods.

I began the group workouts at CFSC three months ago, and I am now doing things I never thought possible. I have more confidence now than I have ever had that I can, in fact, get more fit, and I owe a lot of that success to you. I have been surrounded by encouragement and support, and I am excited to keep the progress going.

I am clearly the most overweight person at CFSC, and the next stage of my journey has to involve significant weight loss. I am asking for the same encouragement and support for this step as you have given me so far. To help motivate you to motivate me, I am offering the following:

For every pound I lose between now and December 15th, I will put $5 into a Holiday Party Fund to be used by the CFSC community. On July 20th, I weighed 360lbs fully clothed at the doctor’s office… so the heat is on.

Most of you seem to me to be very fit, with little if any extra weight… but if any of you want to join me in this challenge, I welcome you to.

-Tom Robertson (a.k.a. Grandpa Tom)
