Rarely in sport or fitness do people of such varied ages, backgrounds, and capabilities do things together. Hanna is 17 and about to graduate as valedictorian of Santa Cruz high next month. My mom is 58 and has four children and five grand children. And here they are both doing pullups together in the same class at the same time and enjoying it. What a treasure.

In every sport there is practice and training and in all team sports there are athletes who get more playing time than others come competition day. The competition days come few and far between and it is the time spent preparing that most of the team remembers. On June 3-5 six athletes will represent our team at the nor cal regional. It was a hard decision to make the line up and we are confident these athletes will do us all proud. Come game day we put our best out there to go for glory. These athletes have put in many hours and lots of sweat to get to put it all out there in June. We can hardly wait.

The one and only Greg Glasssman made a cameo at the ten o'clock class today. Six years ago I was introduced to this man's vision and it has changed all of our lives. He has made a remarkable impact on the lives of millions of CrossFitters around the world with his simple and yet brilliant view and application of fitness paradigms. We are honored to carry on the name of his original gym here in town and were touched he came by for a visit.

CrossFit is an effective fitness program no matter where or how you do it. Be it in your garage, on a military base, in the woods or at an affiliate CrossFit will work. The only thing that spawns on greater outcome is when athletes compete in a group environment. Being chased and chasing down your fellow athletes raises the level of individual performances like nothing else. Pushing and finding our limits is usually found in the heat of competition.
Thanks to Katie and Kristan for coming in. It was a pleasure to have you both.
The open is only two weeks behind us and yet it feels like the distant past as things have gotten back to normal around the gym. It is now time to start planning for the Nor Cal Regional as they are only 18 days away. The event will be taking place June 3-5 at the Santa Clara fairgrounds in San Jose. Tickets are on sale now, volunteers are being wrangled and our athletes are preparing. We are looking forward to a great event and would love to get a big gym turnout to support our team and individual athletes.

It is easy to get greedy. Wanting more and expecting progress are a trade mark of the CrossFit athlete. Once we get one pull-up we want 20. Remember progress is nice and the aims are to continually get better, but let's enjoy what we got. If you just got your first pull-up don't worry about getting 20, enjoy and celebrate that you got one. More will come and you deserve the credit for all the hard work you have put it already. Enjoy what you have created!
The beauty of CrossFit is that we can all appreciate what it takes to push our limits and struggle through discomfort. This understanding allows us to celebrate not only the winners but the individual who finishes last and everyone in between.
When setting up for a snatch we are looking for a straight line from head to tail with the shoulders slightly in front of the bar and weight distributed evenly throughout the foot. When the bar leaves the ground it should travel backwards a little bit. Tyson could make a slight change in his shoulder position by torquing out his elbows, spinning the shoulder back a bit and turning on the upper back and lats. That will make him have faster turn over and help to make sure he does not receive the bar forward.
One of the greatest joys as a coach is watching your athletes surpass your expectations and surprise you with their ability. Josh and Leo continue to impress me with their rapid improvement, willingness to try new things, and attention to detail. These boys will go far in CrossFit and in life due to their work ethic, talent and mental fortitude.
