Vertical Press
When getting ready to push press or jerk we want to keep two things in mind. One... make sure the bar is resting on the muscles of the shoulder and not supported by the arms. Two...keep your elbows in front of the bar while getting your forearms as close to vertical as you can.
Workout:
5 rounds of:
95 pound shoulder press, max reps
95 pound push press, max reps
Rope ascent, max reps
Rest 3 minutes

Burpee Challenge: 71 burpees today

Hey guys.. go check out the Steve's Club site if you haven't in a while. Four of the boys are participating in a 60 day Paleo Diet challenge:

Camden is a tough place to grow up. I grew up in rough town (not quite so bad as Camden, but pretty bad). I want to give these boys all of the encouragement that I can to deal with life in such a positive way by using fitness as a coping mechanism.

That is great news, Gloria! I am sure it will really help them. I give them a ton of respect for trying this while still in school. It won't be easy, but the results will definitely make it worth the effort. :)

Hey Gloria and Kristy!
Just wanted to thank you guys (and CF Santa Cruz) for your kind support and nice words. The boys and I check the site each day before our workout and really enjoy reading the comments on the board. It means a great deal to the boys to feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to such a wonderful community.
To say this 60-day Paleo challenge is a challenge is an understatement. I told them how difficult it will be (especially in the first few weeks) but the rewards are extremely high if they stick with it.
As Kristy said, the biggest challenge will be following this diet during school. Unfortunately, there are not many healthy meal options to choose from at school lunch. Everything is carbs, carbs and carbs. Little fruits and veggies...lots breads, fried foods and heavily processed junk food.
I told them that the school could really care less about their health and it was their own responsibility to take an active stance when it comes to what goes in their body.
I really hope the message gets through and these boys find it in them to complete the challenge. I'm confident they will.
Thanks again for following our site and look forward to keeping in touch and posting updates.
(PS Pooh is kinda bummed out about hurting his wrist. Hopefully he'll recover fast and get back to crossfitting in no time. I commend him for coming out today despite his injury and pain.)

Pooh,
I am sorry to hear about your wrist. Stay positive. You should be able to keep up your CrossFit training in a modified fashion. You'll be healed before you know it. Best of Luck.
I would like to wish everyone good luck with the paleo challenge. I have been eating paleo for the the last 30 days and I feel stronger and healthier than ever.
Keep us posted on the progress.

Pooh,
You are a true CrossFitter. It shows a lot of character and dedication to continue to show up at Steve's Club and do everything that you can while you are healing. I'm sure lots of people use an injury like that as an excuse to skip CrossFit.
You're healthy, you'll heal fast.
