Functional

Hollis Cleans, then Push Presses one of our five gallon water jugs, one-handed.
One of the many reasons doing CrossFit makes sense to me, is that it is functional. Learning how to safely place a five gallon water jug on top of the refrigerator is something we can all benefit from.
What are some other ways in which you use CrossFit in your everyday life?
Workout, for time:
21-15-9
Clean and Jerk
Pull-up

CF benefits: I helped my buddy carry his 32" old school tv out of a 3rd floor walk up. He was gasping and I was hardly breathing. When I spoke to his girlfried a week later she said he had woke up the next day and said he couldn't get out of bed cuz his back was so sore.
Nothing like 45 reps of 225# DL to make a 100lb tv feel like a feather.

Going pee in a public restroom without touching the toilet seat takes a perfect squat, doesn't it Ladies?

Oh yeah, I do that 'squat-butt-don't-touch' technique myself... how funny.
At the hospital I take the stairs when I have to dash off to another dept even when my ass is on fire from crossfitting that morning. I use proper squat technique or even 'dead lift back'for lifting things (or people) off of the floor. Still haven't found use for kipping at work... yet.
AND... I always offer to pull the bed (someone also pushes) when a patient is going to surgery. I have fantasies about hooking a harness or rope to the beds so that I pull them like we pull the weighted truck tires at the gym.

Lugging twelve packs up the stairs...

I recently used my crissfitting skills by keeping my midline tight so I could go faster down a water slide.
I never take two trips to the car for groceries...farmer walk anyone?

I can second the grocery carrying--Scott calls me his little sherpa :) I also enjoy deadlifting the heavy paper boxes at work and the overflowing laundry basket. I heard from my stepfather that he is happy to be working out so that he can "lift things with one arm instead of having to use his whole body" and I just cringed. There is so much wrong with that statement--I don't know where to begin. I find it hard to hold my tongue and not tell all my relatives to get off their lazy asses, stop the lame excuses, and try Crossfit. Even those "working out" have no idea. Crossfit isn't just a fitness regime, it is a way of life.
