Welcome Pooh!
Last week, we posted this link to Steve's Club and asked that you check out his website. CFSC's Heather Mac was inspired by Steve's blog and within a few days she helped us sponsor a young athlete from Steve's Club named Pooh. Starting this week, Pooh will be posting on our comments each day. Below, is his picture and the introduction that he wrote to us.
"Hi, my name is Pooh. I am 13 years old and weigh 126 lbs. My favorite athlete is Dwayne Wade. He's my favorite athlete because he's my inspiration. I joined Steve's Club to get fit and in shape for football season. Steve's Club is my everything."
From CrossFit Santa Cruz:
Pooh,
We are looking forward to getting to know you better. We are excited to welcome you into our CrossFit Santa Cruz Family and honored to have a young athlete like yourself posting your workouts and times, questions, goals, ideas and comments on our site each day!
Good luck with your training goals this summer at Steve’s Club!

ZONERS:
Week Six is finally here! Seven more days until our six weeks is up. I don't know about you all, but I know that I have never been as disciplined on the Zone as I have been with all of your support these last five weeks. I feel like this is a way of life now and although I look forward to meals where I can eat the things I crave, I know without a doubt that eating this healthy makes my body feel cleaner, my energy better and my workouts stronger. Although it's easy to see many gains among those of you who have been Zoning strictly during the Competition, we look forward to measuring your performance gains after Zoning this long. Stay strong through this last week and we hope you are inspired to continue beyond this with some form of healthy eating, whether it's the Zone or something else!
Workout:
10 Thrusters every minute, on the minute, for twenty minutes
Men use 95 pounds, women use 65 pounds

Hey Pooh! Look at you on the CrossFit Santa Cruz site! How exciting!

Thanks for that Planet Organics info. That looks way yummy and might just be the convenience I'm looking for. I'm one that never seems to make it to the farmer's market so this is great.
Any tips about what type box to order and how often?

Wow Pooh, at age 13 you're already looking very strong. I look forward to reading about your progress.

Debs,
I used to order the 2/3 veggie, 1/3 fruit box (small) every other week, and by myself I couldn't keep up with eating it all before it started to wilt/rot, etc. Its so easy to change your order online, maybe you should start with the small all veggie or 2/3 veggie 1/3 fruit box and see how that goes. Even with a teenager in the house it would be better to start small with the produce and make sure you get through it all before ordering a bigger box.
Don't forget to complete your "no" list so they don't send you things like potatoes. Also, you can go online and look at/change the contents in your box before its delivered.
Zone update - so a little zone slipping here and there and a random respiratory infection lead me out of the weigh and measure and into the dark forest of "zone friendly" where a night out to dinner with cocktails and dessert doesn't seem that far of a deviation from the vagueness of eyeballing my 40, 30, 30 and not keeping track of my total blocks. So its go time again. Hollis and Danielle, being the wonderful coaches that they are, will be leading me by their example of strict weigh and measure until the games. I'm excited to be back on a plan. Unlike several of you, I have yet to feel the power of zone eating physiologically but I figure thats just because I haven't been doing it right and/or I haven't found the sweet spot yet, the balance of blocks that works for me when adhered to consistently. I'll be sticking to 12-13 blocks a day... more than my 10-11 a few weeks ago... and trying to dramatically increase my water intake. We'll see how that goes.

Heather,
That sounds like a really great plan. I'm betting you feel much better on the higher blocks. You're probably one of those fortunate ones that was born with higher metabolic rate and can "burn" through more fuel. Enjoy it!!
And thanks for the tips on the box. I was think more like 2/3 fruit and 1/3 veggies...yeah that sweet tooth :D. Even maybe seeing if I split a box with someone. I'm not sure I could get through it all even with a larger household, but I do think I want to try it out.
I love all the great things this group shares with each other! Thanks Hannah and Mallee and Heather!

Today at Steve's Club we did 21-15-12-9-6-3 of Squat Jumps, 1 leg Tuck Jumps, and 1 leg broad jumps. The workout really effected my legs. But it helps build up my calf muscles. It was a good workout for practice of my balance, power and and strength too. My older brother might take me too to the mall tomorrow for new shoes if I don't go to Steve's Club that is why but i don't like to miss it ever.

Pooh, have you ever tried 400m walking lunges? I was so sore in the past that I could hardly walk :) Sounds like you are having fun working out. I find Crossfit the highlight of my days. Stress and life just dissolve away when you are sweating and competing. I am excited to hear more about your workouts! Are you coming out to the Crossfit Games in July?
Heather, you are awesome for taking a step to help Steve's Club. Nice job! And glad to hear you are going strict on the zone. When you are dialed in correctly, it is amazing. Keep strong!

I just spent some time checking out Steve's Club's website. Wow am I impressed at what he is doing with these young men. But especially with the guys themselves....those are some difficult workouts. I'm highly impressed! They are learning a lot more than just how to get a muscle up!
And how cool for four of them to get to come to the CF Games. You're in for a treat!!

Pooh, Thanks for your post tonight. It's always fun to hear what other people are doing in their CrossFit gyms across the country! I took a Rest Day today, but will be back in the gym tomorrow. I hope you get your shoes!

hey pooh! nice to meet you and welcome to CFSC! =) that sounds like a killer workout. yikes. one of our trainers has a leg burner workout that consists of box jumps, 100 meter lunges, heavy front squats, and then dead hang pull-ups at the end just for fun. it's a good one. keep up the good work!
i've been a little sketchy with zoning the last few days mainly due to packing/moving/etc. but, i really don't want to use that as an excuse. i feel better when i'm more disciplined and i can do that regardless of the circumstances. i just need to be more prepared and on it. laziness sure creeps up on me fast that's for sure. =) i'm excited that i get to stay for another week or so and go to the Games! well, i better go eat breakfast and work on packing something. 3-2-1 GO!
p.s. the other day andrew cleaned our computer desk. it was awesome. functional movement...
