Balance Your Body Through Food

1 apple, 2 ounces of cheese, and 6 almonds is what we call two zone perfect blocks. This is a typical zone snack in the CrossFit world of eating to not only be healthy, but also to achieve great performance results.
Saturday, May 17th we will hold a Beach Workout followed by a Zone Information Session and Zone Challenge Announcement. We will meet at the gym at 10am before heading to the beach. Bring sunscreen, a towel and beach-worthy clothes (just in case!), and be ready to have lots of fun and learn more on how to take the next step towards reaching your health and fitness goals. If you have been contemplating trying the Zone, now is the time to do it!
Check out Dr. Berry Sear's site for more on the Zone Diet.
Workout:
5 rounds of:
500 meter row
10 overhead squats (men use 95 pounds, women use 65 pounds)
10 ring dips

Great strategy to inspire discipline in the zone... make us wear our bathingsuits ;)

Hey all,
this is the first time I've ever posted here. I'm from crossfit Oneworld in Union City, and have been Crossfitting for about 4 months with Freddy Camacho. Just trying to branch out and get to know more of the Crossfit community. I've never tried the zone diet. I saw today's post about the Zone, and I was wondering if anyone could give a bit of advice.
I feel like I've been making strides, but my nutrition has only been restrictive, meaning I avoid the bad stuff. (My diet basically consists of lean meats, nuts & berries, Broccoli or spinach, and whole grains.) But I've never eaten constructively to maximize my performance. Being that I'm highly skeptical of "diets", does the Zone really assist performance? I haven't hit a wall, but my strides have definitely began to level off, and I'm looking to take it to the next level. I know I'm somewhat new, but there's no time like the present to be the best I can be.
Sorry for the long post from a stranger. Hope to meet some of you guys soon.
P.S. I saw the video of OPT doing the sub 7 minute Helen. A corny question, but does anyone know where I can get ahold of that song,(different version of Simple Man), that plays in the background?

hey, willy, nice to meet you! i've been crossfitting for about 4 months too and it's changed my life. i'm excited to see what this zone challenge will do for my performances and overall health. i'm "zone friendly", but not officially zoning at this point and i'm ready to kick it up a notch. i'm no expert, but i don't think that coach and all the other trainers would push the zone if it didn't work. crossfit and the zone go hand in hand; it's a lifestyle. i'm not a big fan of diets either, but i think this one is legit. balance, moderation, and discipline are all things i want to embrace wholeheartedly regarding what i eat and in general. good stuff. anyway, thanks for posting here and introducing yourself. =) 3-2-1 GO!

Hi Willy,
Sounds like you're off to an amazing start avoiding the junk food and crazy carb crack. In my very humble and amateur opinion, weighing and measuring will definitely take you to the next level. I'm not sure, but I think guys like Speal have been crossfitting for a while so be patient with yourself. Personally, I'm not very good at zoning (not for lack of effort but definitely for lack of willpower) and I can absolutely tell in my workouts. When I first started crossfitting I made lots of gains. After about 6 months I plateaued and even dropped off a little. Now I'm just inconsistent. I'll have my good days and my bad days. I have no doubt that it has everything to do with nutrition. I think the best advice that I've heard from the coaches is give the zone a 100% try for two weeks and see if it works for you. If it does - great. If it doesn't - great.

First post on this site! I've been Crossfitting at Crossfit Unlimited in Milpitas for 4 months, been on the Zone diet for 2. I must say the first 2-4 weeks are really tough, but once you get used to the lifestyle of preparing and planning your meals you never want to go back. The most valuable thing I've found is the education about the different foods, their glycemic index and what your body really needs. I've seen amazing results. Crossfit and the Zone are a dynamic duo that if you apply 100% will guarantee the best results you've ever seen!

Thanks for posting today everyone. I look forward to talking more about nutrition on Saturday and to having a gym full of fellow zoners for the next six weeks!
